Harm OCD: Fear of Hurting Others
“What if I lose control?†“What if I hurt someone?â€ÂÂÂ
Harm OCD involves intrusive thoughts about causing harm  even though you have no intention of acting on them. These thoughts feel real, but they are a symptom of OCD, not your character.
What is Harm OCD?
Harm OCD is a subtype of obsessive-compulsive disorder where individuals experience unwanted, distressing thoughts about hurting others. These thoughts are intrusive and go completely against personal values.
The more you try to control or suppress these thoughts, the stronger they may become  creating a cycle of fear and anxiety.
Common Intrusive Thoughts
- Fear of hurting loved ones
- Thoughts of losing control suddenly
- Disturbing or violent mental images
- Doubt about being a dangerous person
Why These Thoughts Feel So Real
OCD works by creating doubt and fear. The brain misinterprets thoughts as danger, even when there is no real intent.
Having a thought does not mean you will act on it. In fact, the fear shows how much you value safety and control.
Common Compulsions
- Avoiding people or situations
- Seeking reassurance repeatedly
- Mentally checking intentions
- Trying to suppress or neutralize thoughts
