Sensorimotor OCD
“Why am I noticing my breathing?†“What if I can’t stop focusing on this?†“What if this never goes away?â€ÂÂÂ
If you are constantly aware of automatic body sensations like breathing, blinking, swallowing, or heartbeat  and can’t stop focusing on them  this may be Sensorimotor OCD.
This is not a physical problem  it’s OCD creating hyper-awareness and attention loops.
What Does Sensorimotor OCD Feel Like?
Sensorimotor OCD involves intense awareness of normally automatic bodily processes.
Sensorimotor OCD often overlaps with Pure OCD and awareness patterns seen in Symmetry OCD.
- Constant focus on breathing or blinking
- Feeling unable to “ignore†sensations
- Fear that awareness will never go away
- Difficulty concentrating on anything else
Common Intrusive Thoughts
- “Why am I noticing this?â€ÂÂÂ
- “What if I can’t stop focusing on it?â€ÂÂÂ
- “What if this becomes permanent?â€ÂÂÂ
- “What if I can’t function normally?â€ÂÂÂ
“What If†Doubts
- What if I’m stuck like this forever?
- What if I lose control over automatic actions?
- What if I can’t return to normal?
Common Compulsions
- Trying to control or “fix†the sensation
- Constantly checking awareness
- Trying to distract forcefully
- Monitoring body sensations repeatedly
Why This Happens
OCD locks your attention onto something automatic. The more you try to stop noticing it, the stronger the awareness becomes.
Important to Understand
Awareness is not dangerous. Trying to control it keeps the cycle going  allowing it reduces its power.
